Ultrasound is the use of sound waves and their reflection off of tissue to create an image. In veterinary medicine we use ultrasound to visualize organs such as the heart, liver, spleen, kidneys, gallbladder, pancreas, and adrenal glands. We use the images we obtain to diagnose various conditions including heart muscle and heart valve disease, tumors of the abdominal organs, bladder stones, and even pregnancy.
We can also transmit the images we obtain to other veterinary professionals for consultation. We are very excited to have the capability to perform ultrasounds at Spring Oaks as it improves our ability to diagnose many conditions especially when utilized in conjunction with other diagnostics such as blood work, urinalysis, and radiographs.
