Pet Friendly Travel: 5 Tips for Traveling with Pets this Holiday Season

If you are heading out of town to enjoy the holidays with friends or family, you may be looking to bring your pet with you. Unfortunately, not every pet enjoys traveling. Here are five tips that we at Spring Oaks Animal Care Center have put together for you to help make holiday travel with your pet as stress-free as possible.

Tip 1: Bring Your Pet's Vet Records With You

When you are traveling, always bring your pet's vet records with you, including their shot record. You never know when you will need it.

Tip 2: Try Not to Stress

Pets can pick up on stress and anxiety. If you are nervous and anxious, they may be as well. Try not to stress to help your pet out. And if needed, bring along a favorite toy or blanket for your pet to decrease their stress level.

Tip 3: Travel on Non-Peak Days

When possible, try to travel on non-peak days. This can decrease the amount of people around your pet in the airport or the amount of sitting in traffic you have to do on the roadways.

Tip 4: Research Pet-Friendly Accommodations

Not every hotel or vacation rental accepts pets. Take the time to research pet-friendly accommodations before you head out. When you and your pet are tired, the last thing you want to do is search all over for a place that allows animals.

Tip 5: Don't Be Afraid to Medicate Your Pet

If needed, do not be afraid to medicate your pet for the trips. Medications can help with motion sickness, anxiety, stress or can even sedate your pet so they sleep through the trip.
